Skamania County stretches along the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge and north into the forests of the Cascades. Most of the county is forest land, so homes cluster in a few small communities near Highway 14: North Bonneville, Stevenson, which is the county seat, and Carson a little farther east, plus scattered homes and cabins up the river valleys. We drive out from Vancouver along Highway 14 for this work.
Many properties here are full-time homes, but there are also cabins, vacation rentals and second homes that sit empty for weeks at a time. That changes how roofs need to be built: they have to hold up through storms when no one is there to spot a problem. We also check the attic on those homes, since a slow leak in an empty cabin can soak insulation for weeks before anyone sees a stain.

Skamania County homes, cabins and roof types
Homes along the Highway 14 corridor range from older houses in Stevenson and North Bonneville to newer places on the hillsides. Up the valleys toward Carson and beyond, cabins and rural homes become more common, many on wooded lots with long gravel driveways. Metal is the most common roof we install out here, because it sheds snow, resists moss and needs little attention. Composite shingles remain popular on full-time homes in town, and older cabins often still carry cedar shake that is worn and mossy. Many cabins also have woodstove chimneys whose flashing and caps need regular attention.
Many properties have outbuildings, from detached garages to woodsheds and small shops. Those often have light framing and simple metal roofs that we can repair or replace when snow or limbs do damage. We price every structure on its own. Snow sliding off a metal house roof can also land on a lower woodshed or porch roof, so we look at how the buildings sit next to each other and add snow guards where they help.
How Gorge and mountain weather hit Skamania County roofs
The Gorge brings some of the heaviest rain in our service area, and winds that funnel through the canyon can blow from the east or the west, sometimes changing direction within one storm. Rain driven sideways tests ridge vents, skylights, chimneys and every edge on the roof. Higher elevations up the valleys see more snow, and ice storms coat trees and roofs alike, bringing down limbs from the dense forest. Wet, shaded hillsides grow moss fast, and roofs on cabins that sit empty can go a whole winter with debris piling up in valleys and gutters.
How we work across Skamania County
Because the drive is longer, we group jobs in the county and try to inspect, measure and complete small repairs on the first visit. For replacements, we check with Skamania County or the City of Stevenson on permits. Second-home owners can approve work by phone after seeing our photos. Storm calls come through our 24/7 line, and we will tarp as soon as roads and weather allow. Every visit ends with photos and a clear price for each roof on the property.

Stevenson, WA
Stevenson sits inside the Columbia River Gorge, where very wet winters and strong, shifting winds make roof details and fastening matter more than almost anywhere we work.
Roofing hereCarson, WA
Carson climbs from the Gorge into the Wind River valley, and the snow that settles there turns attic heat loss and gutters into the main roof problems.
Roofing hereNorth Bonneville, WA
Because much of North Bonneville was built at the same time, its roofs tend to age together, and many homes now face their second or third replacement.
Roofing hereRoofing questions from Skamania County
Which Skamania County communities does your roofing crew reach?
We work in Stevenson, Carson, North Bonneville and the rural homes and cabins along Highway 14 and up the nearby valleys, as long as access is safe. We drive out from our Vancouver office and group county jobs together so we can reach you sooner.
Do you offer maintenance plans for Skamania County cabins and rentals?
Yes. For cabins and second homes in Skamania County, we can schedule checks before and after the wet season to clear valleys and gutters, look for lifted shingles or loose metal, and send photos. A typical yearly plan runs about $285 to $640 depending on roof size, a range we confirm after a first visit.
How do Skamania County winds affect roof installation?
Gorge winds can come from either direction, so we fasten every edge of the roof for wind, not just the east side. That means high-wind nailing on shingles, sealed starter at eaves and rakes, and correctly spaced clips or fasteners on metal panels. Those steps help the roof hold up through winter storms.
