Roof leak finder: where is the water coming from?
Pick where the stain shows up and when it happens. You get the most likely source, a safe check you can do, and the repair that usually fixes it.
Water coming in now?
- First
- Move what you can, catch drips, poke a small hole in a bulging ceiling stain over a bucket
- Then
- Call (360) 803-6405. We answer 24/7.
Why timing tells you so much
Water that only shows up in a downpour usually means a spot that is fine in drizzle but overflows, like a clogged valley or a gutter backing under the shingles. Water that shows up during a hard east wind points to rain being pushed sideways under flashing or ridge caps. A stain that grows on cold, dry mornings is often not a roof leak at all but attic condensation dripping off the nails.
The finder is a starting point. Our roofers confirm the source in the attic and on the roof before we fix anything, because the stain on the ceiling is often several feet from where the water gets in.
